Herc arrived at NCCR on 6/20/20 surrendered because his owner didn't
have time for him anymore. He had lived with the same family since he
was a puppy. He is a male mixed breed, thought to have Beagle and Chow
in his mix, and he is approximately 3 years old. Herc is house trained and walks well on a leash. He is described as being friendly and playful with people he knows, but can be protective of children so a home without young children is recommended. He can be tense around strangers, so ongoing gradual socialization is recommended to help him overcome his uneasiness with unfamiliar things. He's been good with all of the volunteers. We're told he gets along ok with cats and most dogs. Herc has demonstrated some food guarding behavior at the shelter, so care must be taken when he is around food. This behavior can be reduced or eliminated over time with proper handling and behavior modification training.

Herc is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. His adoption fee is $190.00. (cash or check only, we are unable to accept credit cards)

Herc is kindly sponsored by: Barb Smith in memory of Gary Smith, David and Patricia Nye, Tina and James McCroskey, Melford Swanson, Suzanne and former NCCR residents, Tillie Mae and Bron Bron, Dave and Nancy Nuzzo, Joseph Incavo, Cathy and David Ferguson, and Mo and Andrew Broadbent in memory of Kofi. Thank you everyone!

If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an adoption application which you'll find under each dog's photo. If you are on Petfinder, you will need to go to our webpage at http://www.caninerescue.org/available-pets/ (just copy and paste that link in your browser). The application to adopt is in the very lower left hand corner of each pet's webpage.

We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopter must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in.

*PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide as if they are incorrect, we will be unable to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone so advise your references that there may be an unknown number or a private number calling them.

NYS Registration #RR028.
