Sampson's Story
Day Three: Things are looking up

Thankfully Sampson has made it through another night. His chills have decreased and his appetite has increased. In the early morning he didn't seem to be doing very well and we were worried, but by mid-afternoon he appears less lethargic.

Sampson's fever is starting to break now and he has eaten about 10 lbs of kibble today. He is still very weak and we are concerned about his back legs. We must be patient for the antibiotics to do their work, but we still worry.

In the evening I go into his pen to put in a fresh bucket of water and more kibble. Sampson stumbles out of his house to visit me. He leans into me and just stands there as if saying "thank you for caring about me". My eyes fill up with tears, but I fight them back and give Sampson hugs and kisses (despite his dirty, stinky body!). His legs are still wobbly and I do not want him to try to stand anymore so I ease him back into his house to rest and pet his head till he falls back asleep. Sampson has gained a few pounds already and you can see his spirits are picking up.

How can they be so forgiving of mankind?
