Sampson's Story
Day 18: Frightened by snow

Sampson can't seem to feel warm enough.

On the morning of March 11th, we awoke to 5 inches of new snow and very cold temperatures. I ran up to the shelter early in the morning to let everyone outside for a bit and to clean pens and so on. Sampson, who usually loves to go out, made his regular bee-line to the door. I opened the door to take him out and he took one look at the snow and stopped dead in his tracks! He started to shake and shiver and turned around and ran straight to his pen and into his doghouse. He refused Sampson just doesn't feel quite right yet.to come out of the pen until I told him it was okay and promised I wouldn't take him outside. Sampson stayed in all day and evening, too. He wouldn't go out. He didn't eat much, either.

The next day, Sampson awoke with a slight fever. He was a bit more weak than the day before and shivered on and off. He went out for a few minutes and did his business, but then headed back straight for the building and his pen. I started to think that he was on a turn for the worse and that we would end up losing him after all. We were really worried about him over the weekend.
