Happy Valentine’s Day Week!

Are you looking for a 4 legged Valentine to keep you company?

life is better banner3 of these dogs are surprisingly still available. Noelle is a 5 year old spayed female Shepherd who loves going for walks. Heaven is a spayed 6 year old dog who has paired up well with several different shelter dogs as well as been an excellent representative at off site events. She could be a perfect couch potato, and she also LOVES belly rubs and interacts well with people of all ages. Christie is a young spayed female who aged out from a puppy mill. She’s a happy girl who will benefit from some training and someone who can work with her energy level.

This Saturday the 15th is Open House from 1-3pm at the shelter.   You can stop in, check out all the great dogs, make a donation or just look at the facilities and talk to the volunteers about helping.  Volunteers need to be over 18 years of age and can fill out the volunteer application located here https://www.caninerescue.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Volunteer-Application.pdf

The shelter has recently had several stray dogs arrive.  Sometimes we are lucky and are able to reunite a dog via social media, but many times the dog’s people are never located.  A microchip certainly aids in a pet recovery; recently we read that a Chicago dog was reunited after 8 years due to the microchip that it had!  If possible, please have your pet microchipped.  All dogs adopted from NCCR are already chipped.

Tired of all the mud on your dog?  Need to give it a bath?  Our local Tractor Supply at 21 Nichols Avenue in Westfield has 2 pet washing stations! More details can be found here:  https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/cms/pet-wash?cm_mmc=SEM-_-Google-_-DynamicAdGroups-_-AllSiteTSCExtAd&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvMCtqOTH5wIVBKSzCh1NAwDoEAAYASAAEgIDJ_D_BwE

As part of the President’s Day Winter Festival in Mayville this weekend there is a Pet Parade Saturday the 15th at 3pm at Lakeside Park. All leashed pets are welcome! There will be prizes; the event is sponsored by North Shore Specialties and chqdogs.

Do you have young children aged 8-13? They might be interested in an event the Patterson Library in Westfield is putting on the 21st at the Library; several of the NCCR dogs will be participating!

As always, we have a number of wonderful dogs hoping that they will meet their special Valentine this week; stop in and talk to the volunteers about them. They can help match you to a dog that would meet your lifestyle, home situation and activity level.
