Dog of the week
(Click picture to enlarge)

You may remember this guy - Auggie Doggie?  Well he was adopted and has been a very special dog to two nice people for quite a long time now.  In spite of their efforts at socializing Auggie with children, he is just not comfortable around them and a baby will be joining the family shortly so they have asked us to rehome him.

Auggie, an adult Black Lab/German Shepherd is very loyal to his owners and prefers their company to anyone else.  He has loved his daily rides in the car, is pretty well behaved on a leash and would like to be your only pet.  If you think Auggie Doggie might fit into your household why not give us a call?  His former family would be happy to tell you all about him and answer any queries you may have.  Go on - give this wonderful dog another chance!  Call NCCR at 326-PAWS.

If you are interested in Auggie, or in adopting a dog, visit NCCR's website at www.caninerescue.org or call 326-PAWS

Coming soon to NCCR: The Behavioral Wellness Program

NCCR will soon present the Behavioral Wellness Program, a course developed and lead by Kimberly Stewart of Citizen Dog.  The program will focus on understanding canine behavior: you’ll learn which behaviors can be changed, which behaviors need to be managed, and the best tools to accomplish both. Through this course, you’ll enrich your human-dog relationship while learning each other’s language Citizen Dogand building trust through positive reinforcement.

Classes are lead by Kimberly Stewart, CPDT.  Kim has shared her life with dogs and has been certified to teach by the Animal Behavior College.  Through Citizen Dog, she offers obedience and behavior modification classes and specializes in problem behavior.

NCCR adopting families may be eligible for a training discount. For more information about training for you and your dog, please call 716-672-9264 or email her at kim@mycitizendog.com.

"Dress Down" for NCCR

On Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, the Hamburg Middle School dressed down for NCCR.  The premise behind the dress down day is that faculty and staff make donations each time they dress down.  The amount of the donations range from $2 and up.  The amount of money raised on Jan. 16 amounted to $143.00!  Since NCCR relies solely on donations, this money will be put to much needed items for the Rescue.

Thank you to all who participated and a special thanks to Cheryl, adopter of McDougal aka Mickey (formerly Comet) for suggesting that NCCR be the beneficiary of the donations!

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly)
TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly)

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) is a international weight loss support group with Chapters across the county.  This year our Chapter #NY1110, Silver Creek hosted our area's Fall Rally, recognition of success of our members' weight loss.  This year it was held in Jamestown at the Crown Theater with 130 members in attendance.  We ask members to help out an organization of our choice and this year we chose NCCR to benefit from our generosity.

This is the first time we chose to help the dogs and puppies in need!  We had a great response from our members and hope our donations will help our furry friends!  We will keep NCCR in our thoughts.
