Nelly

Update: Nelly has been spending time in a foster home; this from her foster mom! “I so love this gentle, sweet girl! I see no separation anxiety at all with her, but she is with my pack. She is very polite in our home. When she does jump up to greet you for kisses she is very gentle. She is quiet, but has a deep bark if she is rattled. Her coat is beautiful. She knows commands, sit and gives paw for treats. Nelly plays well with other dogs. She was interested in Gerald (the cat), but we introduced them and all is good. She runs and plays with Itty Bitty Hera (also listed here looking for a home) and is gentle with her.”

Nelly arrived at NCCR on 1/8/21, surrendered due to separation anxiety. Her family wasn’t able to be home as much as Nelly needed them to be. She had originally been adopted from NCCR in 2019 after being pulled from an overcrowded shelter. She is a spayed female, thought to be a Labrador Retriever mix, approximately 2 ½ – 3 years old. Nelly had cherry eye, which was repaired prior to her arrival. Nelly is very friendly toward people, including children, and most other dogs. She is house trained. Nelly could use some obedience training to improve her manners, as in her excitement to meet people, she does sometimes jumps up. Nelly cannot be safely crated, as she panics and may hurt herself trying to escape the crate. She does not like to be alone but that might possibly be helped by having a doggie companion to spend her alone time with. She gets along great with dogs at the Rescue and loves their playtime together. We believe the right family for her will have another dog, not be gone long hours and have the patience to work with her anxieties. She’s really a very sweet and lovable girl who will flourish in the right situation.

If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an  Adoption Application.  *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far as processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again if you see another dog that interests you.   If you have a question, please email your question to adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email as we receive many phone calls each day.

We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopter must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in.

*PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide as if they are incorrect, we will be unable to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone so advise your references that there may be an unknown number or a private number calling them.

NYS Registration #RR028.
