It has been a wonderful month at the shelter for us and for one dog in particular.  Sammi has gone home!  Sammi, who arrived in 2016 as a pregnant,  almost feral dog had been with us more than 1170 days (3+ years), and finally found what we all hope to be her perfect forever home.   You can read about Sammi here: https://www.caninerescue.org/2017/    Many, many tears were shed by the volunteers and shelter staff over this news.  Sammi had become a shelter favorite of all those who took care of her, socialized her and helped her become the best dog she could be while at NCCR.   We all wish her the very best in her new home.

sam1To add to the good news for 2019 we have increased the number of dogs and pups we can handle due to our expanded foster program. This allowed us to save more puppy mill “cast offs” and take in more local strays from the surrounding area. As a result we have had more than 300 adoptions this year.

The Executive Director of the shelter makes up a holiday poem every few years, and did so again earlier this month before several of the dogs named were adopted.  If you are on the mailing list, you probably have seen this already, but it is worth repeating:

All of us, staff, volunteers, dogs and puppies, thank you for your support.  We literally could not do it without your help, be it a donation, an adoption or a simple FB share of one of the NCCR posts that allows others to see what we do.

Have a wonderful holiday, and know that the dogs in our care will be warm, fed, safe and loved.
