Buddy arrived at NCCR on 4/6/26, and was quickly adopted but later returned due to his strength on-leash and for not getting along consistently with the neighbor’s dog. He is a male German Shepherd, believed to be around 6-8 years old. Buddy is generally calm, quiet, and has been friendly with all the people he has met at the shelter so far – he just likes to take a moment to check things out at his own pace with proper introductions. Once he’s satisfied that you’re a friend, he’s happy to pal around with you for walks or just hang out together.
True to his German Shepherd nature, he will keep an eye on the household occupants, and he has a dislike of the UPS truck and the mailman. He is well house trained, and has been gentle on his toys and blankets. He likes to play fetch, and he will swap one ball for another. Buddy knows how to walk on a leash and enjoys his exercise, but is a strong puller and likes to try chasing any wildlife he comes across. He will also bark & pull toward other dogs, so he will need ongoing training for leash reactivity and better leash manners. A kid-free, pet-free home is recommended. If you can commit to helping him become his best self with patience & training, and have a love of the breed and all that goes with it, Buddy is ready & waiting to start his new life with you!
If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an Application. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far as processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again if you see another dog that interests you. If you have a question, please email your question to adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email as we receive many phone calls each day.
We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopter must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in.
*PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide as if they are incorrect, we will be unable to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone so advise your references that there may be an unknown number or a private number calling them.
Buddy is sponsored by Dorinda White in honor of Daniel F. and Amy Courtine, Steve and Diana Lucas in memory of Zeus, Brantley Greenough, Sarah Vosz, Kevin and Barbara Kantz and Diane Mogavero. Thank you!
