Maxwell arrived at NCCR on 5/28/24, picked up as a local stray. Since Maxwell was not claimed by his owner, he is now looking for a furever family of his own. He is thought to be a Pug/Jack Russell Terrier mix, around 7-8 years old. Maxwell arrived in neglected condition, dirty and full of fleas, but you should see him now! He’s very social and loves meeting people and was perfectly fine with small, busy visiting humans! And no worrying about vacuum cleaners or fireworks as Maxwell is not bothered by either at all!
June 30, 2024 update: “Everything is going well with Maxwell. He seems to feel at home and gets along well with my dogs. I’m happy to report, he does not shed! He enjoys relaxing outdoors for extended periods of time. He would appreciate having a fenced yard at his forever home. He may be happiest with someone who is home a lot. I believe he would do well as an only, or in a home with another friendly dog around his size. He does have issues with dogs we see while walking around the neighborhood. I am working remotely with a trainer. He is already making progress. Maxwell is fond of attention, pets, and a good belly rub. It doesn’t take much to get his tail wagging. He doesn’t seem to be a lap dog, but does like to be near us. He snuggles with me at bedtime. I feed my smaller dog in a separate area of the kitchen, so she doesn’t take his food. He did show a little aggression when she tried to steal his dental treat. I don’t blame him one bit! Other than that, he has good manners, is house trained, doesn’t bark excessively, did not make a fuss when I gave him a shower, and is a fairly mellow guy. He is quite fond of playing ball. He loves walks, and now “talks” when we are getting ready! I am adjusting his food intake to help him shed a few pounds. Maxwell is a good boy. There is a lot to like about him. I feel anyone would be lucky to have him!”
Update from Maxwell’s foster home: So far things are going well with Maxwell. He seems to feel at home. He enjoys relaxing outdoors for extended periods of time. He would appreciate having a fenced yard at his forever home. He does not interact much with my dogs yet. They are curious about each other, but give each other space. He would probably do well in a home with another friendly dog his size. He seems to have issues with big dogs we see while walking through the neighborhood. Maxwell is fond of attention, pets, and a good belly rub. It doesn’t take much to get his tail wagging. He doesn’t seem to be a lap dog, but does like to be near us. He snuggles with me at bedtime. I feed him in a separate area of the kitchen, so mine don’t take his food. He lets out a low growl if they get too close. He did show a little aggression when one of mine tried to steal his dental treat. I don’t blame him one bit! Other than that, he has good manners, is house trained, doesn’t bark excessively, did not make a fuss when I gave him a shower, and is a fairly low key guy. He is beginning to show his playful side. He loves walks, and now “talks” when we are getting ready! We are working on the pulling. He has made quite a bit of progress already. I am adjusting his food intake to help him shed a few pounds. He’s a good boy. I feel anyone would be lucky to have him!
If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an Adoption Application. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far as processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again if you see another dog that interests you. If you have a question, please email your question to adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email as we receive many phone calls each day.
We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopter must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in.
*PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide as if they are incorrect, we will be unable to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone so advise your references that there may be an unknown number or a private number calling them.
Maxwell is happy to be sponsored by Suzanne, Tillie Mae and Mimzie in memory of Bron Bron, Chelsea Barber, Heath Forster, Tina and James McCroskey and Henry Leworthy. Thank you so much!
