Take a look at these videos of Sugar: https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1E8272uBzQ/ and https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1XczzkrbQw/
This eye-catching auburn haired beauty is Sugar, an approximately 2 to 3-year-old spayed female who is every bit as sweet as her name implies. Her breed mix is guessed to possibly include Shiba Inu or Chow (maybe both?) and shepherd, but she may have other breeds in her heritage, too. Sugar unfortunately had a rocky start in life that damaged her trust, but she is eager to find a committed person to show her the love she truly deserves. Once she knows she is safe, Sugar is an affectionate, loyal companion who loves to stay close to her person and shower them with sweet kisses. She is extremely eager to please! She can be selective about her canine company, so she is looking for a home where she can be your one and only pet – the center of your attention, just the way she likes it! She is currently working with a trainer on learning to calmly focus on her handler when other dogs are around, and she is making fantastic progress every day. Sugar plays a little hard to get at first and prefers to check out new people, especially men, at her own pace. With a little sweet talk, some patience, and a calm routine, she warms up beautifully. Because she craves safety & security, she will thrive with a patient adopter who can give her time to settle in, build her confidence, and help her feel relaxed & comfortable. If you are looking for a stunningly gorgeous, deeply devoted companion who will reward your patience & understanding with a lifetime of loyalty, Sugar is ready to meet you.
We think that Sugar will do best as your one and only (she is dog-selective) and in a child-free home.
If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an Application. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far as processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again if you see another dog that interests you. If you have a question, please email your question to adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email as we receive many phone calls each day.
We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopter must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in.
*PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide as if they are incorrect, we will be unable to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone so advise your references that there may be an unknown number or a private number calling them.
Sugar is sponsored by Sharon Perry, in honor of all rescue dogs, Donna Hazlett, Lenore Goold, Roberta Gray, Victor and Gloria Armes. Kim Joslyn, Ronald and Brenda Cobb Johnson, Paula E. Stearn and Don and Joanne Pochopin, in memory of Charlotte. Thank you everyone!
