July 2025 update: Next week will be 3 months and Vinton continues to make big changes. He will now jump in and out of the car on his own, he has jumped up onto the couch twice on his own and is fully house trained with no accidents in many weeks, and no crating at all!
Each time we go outside we have the same routine walk around the property on leash. We were confident about starting to remove the leash in small steps over the course of a few weeks. First by unleashing at the door before going inside, then from the car to the house, and now completely off when we go outside. With Annie’s guidance he naturally stays nearby and understands the boundaries and can finally stretch his legs! He is such a great boy and continues to impress us as he becomes more acclimated to our home every day. He gets very excited about going outside, going for rides and walks, sleeping on our bed with Annie and eating pup cups. He has come a very long way and we love him!
Vinton is doing extremely well. We constantly checked in on his status ever since he first arrived at NCCR. We fully understood the possibility of all that might have been involved with adopting Vinton and were ready to do whatever it took to make him feel right at home with us. Annie (who we adopted 3 1/2 yrs ago) has been a true guide to comfort for Vinton as we knew she naturally would be. It has been exciting to see the subtle changes in character over the last 3 weeks, relaxation, decompression, trust building. Most recently: tail wags to go outside, slight pouncing and very mild/brief vocal to initiate play with Annie, and increased excitement when going on car rides.
Vinton has shown zero signs of aggression, a very high success rate of house training, and zero issues with leaving him with Annie free in our home while we are away. (With nothing to clean up).
I plan to continue sharing photos as we know many people that provide great care for him at NCCR have been hoping for a long time that Vinton finds a home that loves him. Through continued love and patience, Vinton will have an opportunity to enjoy his life to the fullest. We are excited to have Vinton be part of our family, forever.
After an extended stay at NCCR, Vinton was adopted in May 2025!!
