UPDATE FROM JEB’S FOSTER HOME (May 1, 2026): Jeb has been slowly making more progress. He sleeps in a dog bed in my bedroom, and knows our routines well. He follows my golden retriever Percy, and seems to take comfort in being near him at all times. This could be a sign he likes male dogs, or just likes Percy’s older age and relative calm. Jeb is eating really well and has learned to take his treats and run before the other dogs steal them. Jeb has been wonderful with all dogs we have introduced, and does show interest in the humans that visit. He’s always nearby and sometimes seems to be corralling the humans like a border Collie might. It makes us laugh. He also appears to be house broken. He has had two accidents since he arrived. Both happened when I slept for 10-12 hours, so not really unexpected. Otherwise he’s been perfect.
Jeb arrived with his family in May 2021 and he and his brother Justice are still waiting to be chosen. They had never been socialized to people, and were extremely fearful! These handsome boys are now approximately 4 years old, and they are still learning, very gradually, to feel comfortable being around people. Both boys accept gentle handling and will take treats (hotdogs are a favorite!). They had a very damaging experience of humans in their young lives prior to coming to NCCR, and it will take time, patience, and persistence to get them acclimated to living in a household like “normal” dogs. Neither of them displays aggression, although they are still timid of new people and new things. Justice in particular has become more outgoing with time, and will sometimes play with toys with a few people he knows well and feels more comfortable with. The boys can be adopted together or separately, but a home with at least one other confident & friendly dog is strongly recommended, and a fenced yard is required as they are not confident or comfortable with leashing and leashed walking yet.
If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an Application. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far as processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again if you see another dog that interests you. If you have a question, please email your question to adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email as we receive many phone calls each day.
We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopter must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in.
Jeb is sponsored by Jill Reese, Ron and Brenda Johnson and by Ryan, Ellie, Michael, Zoey and Cindy Wise. Thank you everyone!
*PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide as if they are incorrect, we will be unable to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone so advise your references that there may be an unknown number or a private number calling them.
